Crédit Mutuel Equity became a shareholder in the mid-2000s and then again in 2017 with an additional investment in 2018, and is now selling its shares as Ardian and Naxicap Partners invest in the company. The Emera group was set up in 1988 and owns a network of residential care homes for the elderly (EHPAD in French) in France and Europe, with 68 establishments and 6 000 beds. The group had total sales of over 230 million euros in 2018, with 20% produced abroad (Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Italy and Spain).

The Emera group's offer is based on high quality accommodations and medical services and differentiates by way of its accommodation services, resident well-being and customized care. Everything is integrated, from the architectural design of the establishments and their construction to their operations. This control of the value chain means that Emera can support their know-how which claims to take residents into account at each step of their daily lives. Particular care is taken about the meals prepared on-site for residents by chefs, the activities offered as well as equipment and the way living spaces are organized. This model has been tried and tested in France and has been successfully reproduced in other countries.

"We are proud to have helped Emera in its structuring when we became shareholders in 2005, then when its international development accelerated in 2017. This relationship of trust and partnership has lasted for almost 15 years and has borne fruit. Emera's success is a good illustration of our investment concept over time, designed to allow a company to develop at its own pace. Claude Cheton, Chairman and founder, has shown his ability to develop the group successfully by combining a deliberate strategy of acquisition and opening new companies, and of expansions and conversions of establishments", explains Bertrand Ghez, and Laurent Sallet, Managing Director and Principal respectively at Crédit Mutuel Equity.
