Bougrier is a wine merchant and winemaker based in the Loire valley that has been owned by the same family for six generations.

With revenue of almost €21 million in 2017 and 36 employees, Bougrier is one of the last remaining family-owned wine houses covering the whole Loire Valley. Its ambition is to set the standard for quality in the region. The company has three fermenting rooms, where winegrowers bring their harvests. It then handles the whole winemaking process, including maturing, blending, bottling and then sales, mainly through large-scale retailers. The company has invested in a bottling and storage facility in Saint-Romain-sur-Cher, with capacity of 14 million bottles, and an analysis unit to ensure product traceability.

Bougrier exports almost half of its production to around 30 countries, where it is developing its own brands.

Moving towards the higher end of the market and international expansion are the main growth drivers for French wine, particularly wines from the Loire valley, which are very popular in the USA.

"This transfer of ownership, in which we have made a long-term commitment, is a great opportunity for us to provide active support to Bougrier as it grows, while ensuring its independence in a consolidating market. We are delighted to be working with this company and its passionate staff, with its deep roots in the various winegrowing areas of the Loire valley," explained Stéphane Mentzer, Manager at Crédit Mutuel Equity (formerly CM-CIC Investissement).

"By setting Crédit Mutuel Equity the challenge of organising the transfer of ownership, we have secured the backing of a reliable partner that will be able to support us with its expertise and network, helping us to achieve sensible growth both in France and abroad," added Noël Bougrier.
